January and February
Its still winter but there’s plenty to do. Order seeds, heat mats, silage tarp and sandbags. The buzz was order early. Fortunately, we did.
We are lucky to have two eager interns who set to work helping with weeding, moving existing garden beds and more. More friends and helpers arrived helping with filling sandbags for the silage tarp (used to smother the cover crop so that organic material breaks down before planting time). We set up tables for seed trays, got the heat mats plugged in and even popped our first seeds into seed trays all before the snow came: peas, cabbage, broccoli, onions and lettuce. The hoop house stayed at 40 degrees and the starts stayed over 50 degrees so all is well.
